If a picture's worth a thousand words... that's visual language.

This work is about decolonizing art history by challenging the status quo. The personal is at times political, so decolonizing history starts with personal opinions. These painting mirror the flow of political and cultural events, so when a picture's worth a thousand words, that's visual language.

As with many artists, at one point funds dried up, I could no longer afford canvas so turned to painting on cardboard. Now this illustrates an important point; going with the flow and following lines of least resistance can land you right in the middle of a cultural debate. I came out of the art closet when my partner said I should be grateful not to be like Emily Carr, poor thing only had cardboard to paint on. That was my Eureka moment!

Inclusive and a cultural statement, cardboard is a social platform on which an artist can speak with pictures. Our lives are full of conflicts in search of solutions, and the first step is often within our feelings. This work sees moments, the memes, a life.
